With gratitude for Jamie and her 12 years of IBCLC experience, we’re proud to celebrate the milestone she reached this month. While she has been an IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) for 12 years, Jamie has been part of Transitions Into Parenting even longer—bringing her deep expertise, steady presence, and compassionate support to families throughout her many years with us. Her calm guidance and evidence-based care have helped countless parents navigate the early days of feeding with confidence.

We sat down with Jamie to reflect on her journey and the lessons she’s learned along the way.

Q: What inspired you to become a lactation consultant?

“I started my career as a mother/baby nurse, and during that time I realized that the moments I felt most fulfilled were when I was helping new mothers breastfeed. Supporting families through those early, often vulnerable days made me aware of what my true passion was. That inspired me to become a lactation consultant so I could focus fully on guiding parents, building their confidence, and helping them have a positive breastfeeding journey. My IBCLC experience has allowed me to combine clinical expertise with a personal understanding of what families need.”

Q: How has your role evolved over the past 12 years as an IBCLC?

“When I first became an IBCLC 12 years ago, things were simpler. There were fewer products and resources available—most stores carried only one type of pump that was paid for out of pocket, and online shopping wasn’t nearly as common. Today, parents have endless options, from a variety of pumps to countless accessories, apps, and online communities.
While all of these tools can be incredibly helpful, they can also feel overwhelming. Over the years, my IBCLC experience has grown to include not only providing clinical lactation support, but also helping parents sort through all the information and choices so they can feel confident in what’s truly best for them.”

Q: What’s one piece of advice you’d give every parent?

“Make your breastfeeding journey your own, and follow what feels right for you and your baby. Every family’s experience is different and there’s no single ‘right’ way to do this. Lean on the support and resources around you, and reach out for help whenever you need it. Give yourself patience, kindness, and room to grow. You and your baby are learning this together. My IBCLC experience has shown me that the most important support is encouragement and confidence-building.”

Q: What’s your favorite part of your work?

“My favorite part of my work is being welcomed into such a special moment in a mother’s journey. The breastfeeding experience is something every mother remembers, and it means so much to be able to support and guide families during that time. Being a part of those first meaningful steps is truly an honor. My IBCLC experience has taught me that these moments, though small, are life-changing for families.”

At Transitions Into Parenting, we’re grateful to have Jamie on our team. Her 12 years as an IBCLC—and her many years of dedicated service to our organization—reflect the heart and mission of our work: helping parents feed with love, knowledge, and confidence.

Thank you, Jamie, for all that you do!
